Studio Policies
I am a firm believer that, when it comes to music, you only get what you give. Music is like an ocean: it's vast, seemingly endless and it's waiting to be discovered. To discover it, you need to learn how to swim. And that's why you're here: I will teach you to swim, to discover that ocean. But swimming is hard work! The body and the mind need to develop skills, strength and coordination. I will expect you to practice regularly, and to come prepared for lessons.
Although I do not expect all my students to become professional musicians, I will encourage you to work to become your very best. For those that would like to perform, I will help you to prepare for local Music Teachers Association events, as well as for any suitable competitions. And for those that would like to advance through the Royal Conservatory of Music (RCM) or the Associated Board of the Royal Schools of Music (ABRSM) grading systems, I will guide you to successful examinations and strong results.
My Objectives
Teaching music as a medium for creative self-expression, lessons will cover theory, history, technique, and performance, with tailored curriculum for all levels, culminating in two yearly studio recitals in a supportive environment.
Expectations for Students
Students should arrive punctually and prepared with all materials and completed assignments. Practice at least 5 times weekly, and participate in yearly performances to demonstrate progress and commitment.
Expectations for Parents
Set a regular practice time and supervise sessions to ensure assignments are completed, as many children need support. Provide a piano or full-sized keyboard with 88 weighted keys and a foot pedal.
Rescheduling Policies
Cancellations must be made at least 24 hours in advance. Students get one make-up lesson per month. Teacher-canceled lessons will be rescheduled or credited.
